Obituary

Funeral services for Irene Bailey, age 88, of Woodland will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at 12:00 Noon at Flat Rock Methodist Church with Rev. Keith Benefield and Rev. Jimmy Keel officiating and Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 - 7:00 PM on Tuesday, December 17.

Mrs. Bailey passed away on Monday, December 16, 2024, at her home.

Survivors include: son, Greg Bailey of Woodland; granddaughter, Adrianna Bailey Ayers (Zac) of Grantville, GA; a great-granddaughter, Elsie Ayers; and a sister-in-law, Maugene Herren of LaGrange, GA.

Pallbearers will be Lamar Scott, Keith Lewis, Holly Scott, Jeannie Volpe, Quita Haggard, and Nikki Hann.

A Woodland native, Mrs. Bailey was born on October 7, 1936, the daughter of William “Willie” and Hattie Burgess Herren. She was Christian by faith and had been a faithful member of Flat Rock Methodist Church where she served as the secretary for many years. Mrs. Bailey was the backbone of her family. She worked tirelessly as a homemaker at the family farm. Mrs. Bailey’s greatest joy was her family, especially her granddaughter and great-granddaughter. She also enjoyed cheering for the Alabama Crimson Tide. Mrs. Bailey was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arnold O. Bailey; son, Ricky Bailey; three sisters, Pearl Johnson, Eunice Lewis, and Rena Calhoun; and two brothers, Herman Herren and Wallace Herren.
