Obituary

Funeral services for Geraldine Gay Heard, age 91, of Oxford will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 12:00 noon at Benefield Funeral Chapel with Donald Heard and Ted Embry officiating. Burial will follow at Midway Community Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00 AM until service time on Saturday, January 18, 2025.


Mrs. Heard passed away on Monday, January 13, 2025, at Anniston, AL.

Survivors include: two daughters, Deborah Butler (Danny) of Eastaboga, AL, and Patricia Champion
(Winford) of Oxford, AL; one son, Donald Heard (Cheryl) of Eastaboga, AL; seven grandchildren, Brandy Brooks (Donald Johnson) of Oxford, AL, Brandon Heard (Katy) of Madison, AL, Chelsea Popp (Donovan) of Eastaboga, AL, Laura Miller (Ryan) of Auburn, AL, Leah Dulaney (Dewayne) of Anniston, AL, Brady Heard (Josie Pearce) of Oxford, AL, and Darby Floyd (Jarrett) of Eastaboga, AL; 15 great-grandchildren, Hannah Heard, Ethan Heard, Delilah Heard, Gabriella Heard, Eleanor Heard, Maddox Popp, Landry Jane Popp, Wilder George Popp, Easton Dulaney, Grayson Miller, Merritt Miller, Logan Nails, Brianna Brooks, Bailey Brooks, and Trent Brooks; one sister, Kathy King of Chatsworth, GA; and her dog, BJ.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Heard, Brady Heard, Ethan Heard, Trent Brooks, Donovan Popp, Jarrett
Floyd, Ryan Miller, and Dewayne Dulaney.

A Randolph County native, Mrs. Heard was born on June 13, 1933, the daughter of Handley and Jessie Lois Yarbrough Gay. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Oxford where she was a member of the Grace Sunday School class. Mrs. Heard worked for JCPenney in the boy’s department before her retirement. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George T. Heard, Sr.; a son, George T. Heard, Jr.; a great-great-grandchild, Tidus Abernathy; and a sister, Melderine Green.
