Obituary Notice

Funeral services for John Franklin Edgar, SR., age 88, of Wedowee will be held Saturday, November 21, 2009, at 11:00 am from the First Baptist Church with Rev. David Edgar and Rev. Don Paris officiating. Burial will follow in the Westview Cemetery in Atlanta, GA with Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, November 20, 2009.

Mr. Edgar died Thursday, November 19, 2009 at Wedowee Hospital.

Mr. Edgar is survived by his wife, Ellie Strickland Butler Edgar; one daughter, Kathy Hall of Spartenburg, SC; two sons, John Edgar, Jr. of Atlanta, GA, David Paul Edgar of Taccoa, GA; ten grandchildren; eight great grand-children.

Pallbearers will be Paul Edgar, Paul Hall, Jeff Lovins, Brian Bentley, Mac Nunn and Bob Brooks.

Mr. Edgar was born, August 2, 1921, the son of Owen Bascom and Mattie May Willis Edgar. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and had been a maintenance mechanic for Mead Packaging. Mr. Edgar served in the United States Army during WWII where he was wounded and received a Purple Heart in Germany. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Vet and VFW. Mr. Edgar was preceded in death by two brothers, Owen and Oscar Edgar; one sister, May Brooks.
