Obituary Notice Funeral services for James Robert McManus, age 81, of Woodland, will be held Monday Dec. 21, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. from the East Napoleon Church of Christ with Pastor Frank Foster, Pastor David Markham and Chad Prince officiating. Mr. McManus will lie in state one hour before the service at the church. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 20, 2009. Mr. McManus died Saturday, December 19, 2009 at Regional Medical Center. Mr. McManus is survived by his wife, Inez Hanner McManus of Woodland; one daughter, Virginia Ann Windsor of Woodland; three sons, James Ridley McManus of Woodland, Don Lee McManus of Roanoke, Jerry Charles McManus of Woodland; one sister, Elizabeth Spradlin of Woodland; one brother, Carl Jackson McManus of Smith Station; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Ridley McManus, Lee Windsor, Joshua McManus, Danny Hanner, Victor McManus, Barry Lee Messer, Dustin Collier and Mike Hanner. Mr. McManus was born, March 10, 1928, the son of Jim Bob and Bertie Lea Boone McManus. He was a member of the East Napoleon Church of Christ and served in the United States Army for twenty-three years during the Korean and Vietnam wars where he received the Purple Heart. Mr. McManus was preceded in death by his parents.
