Obituary of Imogene Sheppard

Funeral services for Imogene Sheppard, age 77, of Wedowee, will be held 2:00 pm, Wednesday, January 27, 2010 from the Union Hill Congregational Methodist Church with Rev. Billy Kennedy and Rev. Ronnie Williams officiating. Mrs. Sheppard will lie in state one hour before the service at the church. Burial will follow in the Valley Grove Primitive Baptist Cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee in charge of arrangements.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 26, 2010.
Mrs. Sheppard died Sunday, January 24, 2010 at Trinity Medical Center.
Mrs. Sheppard is survived by her husband, Arvel Sheppard of Wedowee; two daughters, Linda Reaves and Renae Smith both of Wedowee; three sons, Bennie Sheppard, Jack Sheppard and Doug Sheppard all of Wedowee; one sister, Hilda Hunt of Rome, GA; four brothers, Bob Putman of Woodstock, GA, Charles Putman of Fyffe, Johnny Wayne Putman of Valpariso, Indiana, Ricky Putman of Hamilton; eleven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Benjy Sheppard, Greg Sheppard, Ryan Sheppard, Andrew Smith, Johnathan Smith, Patrick Mize, David Alexander and Greg Alexander. Honorary pallbearers will be Aaron Sheppard, Matt Sheppard, Alex Sheppard, Ally Sheppard, Avery Sheppard, Cassie Smith, Jayden Smith, Tanner Smith, Chase Patterson, Abigail Alexander, Aerial Alexander, and Aaron Alexander.
Mrs. Sheppard was born, December 10, 1932, the daughter of, Lewis W. and Lillie Mae Perkins Putman, Sr. She was a member of Heflin Church of God and a textile seamstress. Mrs. Sheppard was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Wayne Sheppard; one grandchild, Amanda Renae Smith; one great grandchild, Emily Grace Alexander.
