Obituary Notice Services for Billy Frank Thornton, age 72, of Wedowee will be held Sunday June 27, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Midway Methodist Church with Roger Hammett officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. Mr. Thornton passed away Friday June 25, 2010 at his residence. Survivors include, one sister, Judy Bassett of Wedowee, two nieces, Lisa B. ( Jason) Cheatham of Mableton, Ga., Carol B. ( Dann) Hall of Murphreesboro, Tn., one nephew, Dobson ( Amy) Harris of Mableton, Ga., three great nieces, Melanie Hall, Emily Harris and Addison Cheatham, one great nephew, Daniel Hall. Pallbearers will be Byron Morrison, Keith Langley, W. C. Pate, Jimmy Clyde Roundtree, Tim Cheatham and Tim Brown. Mr. Thornton was born June 3, 1938 the son of Dobson and Alene Benefield Thornton, he was retired from Pan American Airlines and Randolph Farmers Co-Op, he was a graduate of Auburn University, had served in the Army Air National Guard, and was a member of Midway Methodist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dorothy Thornton, a sister Emily Thornton Harris and two brother-in-laws, Billy Bassett and Jim Harris. The family will receive flowers or request donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society. The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home- Wedowee on Saturday June 26, 2010 from 5 till 8 PM. The body will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services.
