Obituary Notice Funeral services for Mr. William "Bill" Luther Hancock, age 28, of Woodland, will be 2:00 pm, Friday, July 23, 2010, from Jordan's Chapel Methodist Church with Rev. Brian Moore, Rev. David Holcombe, and Rev. Chris Mitchell officiating. He will lie in state one hour before the service at the church. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 22, 2010. Mr. Hancock died Tuesday, July 20, 2010. Mr. Hancock is survived by his parents, Ricky and Aurie Hancock of Wedowee; paternal grandparent, Coolidge Wortham of Wedowee; maternal grandparent, Joyce Hancock of Roanoke; sister-in-law Heather (husband Owen) Henderson of Carrollton, GA; one niece, Madeline Faith Henderson; several Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. Pallbearers will be Donnie Strain, Eric Payne, Gary Cooper, Jonathan Wood, Doug Elder, Frank Mayo, Jake Durham, Wesley Wortham. Honorary pallbearers will be Oxford Police Department. Mr. Hancock was born April 15, 1982. He attended Jordan's Chapel Church, worked as a police officer for the City of Oxford. He was a 2000 graduate of Randolph County High School, 2007 graduate of Northeast Alabama Police Academy, a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and a member of Alabama Peace Officers Association. Mr. Hancock was preceded in death by maternal grand parent Barnice Wortham; paternal grand parent, Milton Hancock. Flowers will be accepted or donations to Jordan's Chapel Church, 1828 Co. Rd. 6, Wedowee, AL 36274.
