Obituary of Awbery Strain

Obituary Notice Funeral services for Awbrey Strain, age 89, of Woodland, will be 2:00 PM, Monday, March 5, 2012, from Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Roger Woodard and Rev. David Daniel officiating. Mr. Strain will lie in state one hour before the service at the church. Burial will follow in the adjoining church cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, on Sunday, March 4th. Pallbearers will be Thomas McCarley, Danny Strain, Barry Edwards, Harold McCarley, Gerald McCarley and Steve McCord. . Mr. Strain died Saturday, March 3, 2012 at his home. He is survived by his wife, Mary Beth McCarley Strain of Woodland; two sons, Jimmy Strain of Pensacola, FL, Don Strain of Woodland; one sister, Genette McCord of Wedowee; one brothers, Ellis Ray Strain of Woodland; two grandchildren, Dawn and Chris Strain. . Mr. Strain was born September 4, 1922, the son of George and Vaudie Pair Strain. He was a member of Zion Baptist Church, had served in the United States Army during WWII and had worked as Superintendent of Construction for Randolph County Commission. Mr. Strain is preceded in death by his parents; one brothers, Dwight Strain; one sister, Burmadean Edwards. Flowers will be accepted or donations made to Zion Baptist Church Cemetery Fund. .
