Obituary of Herman Davis Landers

Funeral services for Herman Davis Landers, age 81, of Wedowee will be held on Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Wedowee with Rev. Cade Farris and Ricky Daniel officiating. Burial will follow at Corinth Cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00-8:00 PM on Monday, June 20, 2016. Mr. Landers will lie in state for one hour prior to services beginning on Tuesday. Mr. Landers passed away Saturday, June 18, 2016, at Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham, AL. Survivors include his wife, Jo Stewart Landers of Wedowee; two daughters, Christi Anne Ward of Sylvester, GA, and Mindi Jo Turner and son-in-law, Bruce of Jacksonville; three grandchildren, Mary Landers Ward, Ashton Caroline Ward, and Haley Katherine Cotton; brother-in-law, Bobby Stewart (wife, Shirley) of Wedowee; sisters-in-law, Ruth Spradlin of Heflin and Burma Johnson (husband, Joe) of Athens, AL; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Chad Lee, David Brooks, Bill Williamson, Jeff Nolen, Steve Spratlin, and Richie Traylor. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of First Baptist Church, Tommy Camp, Alfred Brooks, Ronnie Young, Spence Lee, Glenn Traylor, and Johnny Jones. A Randolph County native, Mr. Landers was born on June 20, 1934, the son of Idus and Lena May Anderson Landers. He was a faithful member and active Deacon of the First Baptist Church of Wedowee where he served in many areas. Mr. Landers graduated from Randolph County High School, attended Southern Union State Community College and Jacksonville State University, and was a United States Army Veteran. Mr. Landers is the owner of Landers Insurance Agency and an agent of Modern Woodmen of America. He was owner of Herman Landers Chevrolet, served as Randolph County Tax Collector, and was retired from ALFA insurance. Mr. Landers was a Randolph County 911 Board Member and also a member of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR). Herman was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a true southern gentleman. He lived his life serving Christ, his family and his neighbor. Herman never met a stranger and his love for others was reflected in his life every day. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials may be floral or donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Wedowee Building Fund.
