Graveside service for Betty Ruth Nichols, age 87, of Anniston, Alabama, will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2023, at 1:00 PM at Providence Baptist Church Cemetery with Bro. David Daniel and Bro. Joshua Newsome officiating and Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Nichols passed away Saturday, June 17, 2023, in Anniston, Alabama.

Survivors include her sons, Roi Newsome (Patty) of Anniston, AL and Anthony David Santos, of Sacremento, California; daughter, Sonya Matthews Lewis (Larry) of Anniston, AL; grandchildren, Joshua Newsome, Samuel Newsome, Jonathan Newsome, Sara Beth Swarey, Judith Schmidt, Jesiah Newsome and Brittany Santos; nephews, Johnny Whitten, Ron Hanson, and Charles Whitten.

Pallbearers will be Jesiah Newsome, Joshua Newsome, Roy Newsome, Quartis Matthews, Larry Lewis, and Charles Swarey.

A Randolph County native, Mrs.  Nichols was born on August 1, 1935, the daughter of Hershell David Whitten and Lizzie Mae Brown Whitten. She was a member of Providence Baptist Church in Woodland and later attended Golden Springs Baptist Church.  She retired from the Department of Motor Vehicles in California. Ms. Nichols was a precious soul who absolutely adored her family.  She was a member of the Royal Order of Moose and the Eagles Club.  She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fred Henry Nichols; four sisters Brooksie Whitten, Oneta Sheffield, Stella Whitten, and Bonnie Hanson; and three brothers Fount Lee Whitten, Jackson Whitten, Joel Whitten, and Lucious Whitten.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to her caregivers, Joy Buchanan, Krista Sims, and Southern New Beacon Hospice.

Memorials may be floral.
