Obituary of Kenneth Alfred Jones

Kenneth A. Jones, age 77, of Wedowee, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 12, 2023.

Born in Atlanta, Georgia, on January 4, 1946, to the late Rev. Edward Franklin and Dorothy Harp Jones, Ken was the middle of three sons and grew up in Dalton, Georgia.  Ken was drafted and served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.  He was a true businessman and throughout his life had many successful endeavors.  During his later years, he moved to Wedowee, Alabama, where he opened a small barbecue restaurant, which he recently retired from.  Serving his customers, who were also his friends, made him truly happy.  Ken will be remembered as a Christian and patriotic man who loved his family.

Survivors include his children, Kenneth A. Jones, Jr. (Kristie) of Fayetteville, GA, and Melody Jones East (Brant) of Chesapeake, VA; grandchildren, Kory Jones (Laura) of Fayetteville, GA, Brooke Jones of Newnan, GA, Jordan Jones of Clarksville, TN, Carson East, Evan East, Dylan East, and Minah East, all of Chesapeake, VA; great-grandchildren, Levi Jones, Waylon Jones, Jonah Jones, River Jones, and Landon Ferrell; siblings, his best friend and big brother, Mr. Ronnie Jones of Sharpsburg, GA, and Randy Jones of Lithia Springs, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews he loved.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM CST on Friday, August 18, 2023, at Benefield Funeral Chapel in Wedowee, Alabama.

The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00 PM on Friday before services begin.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ken’s memory to the American Heart Association or veteran’s charity of choice.
