Lawrence was my mother's oldest sibling. They were very close, especially as they got older. He drove to Roanoke to see her almost every day the last few years of her life. He experienced a lot in his lifetime and cared a great deal about the people he met along the way. I loved talking to him. He could tell me first-hand about the Depression, the Civilian Conservation Corps, and World War II, as well as local and family history, and he told it with a wonderful sense of humor. I loved his stories and I loved him. I will miss him very much.
