When I think of Barry, I have many wonderful memories and especially know how blessed I've been to have such a wonderful brother-in-law. He will always be the love of my sister, Ann's life. I am so grateful for their 41 years together and for the love they shared. Barry was devoted to his marriage and to family; a friend to many I think of all he meant to me and to our family through the years. So many great stories we can share.
My sister would make "plans" but Barry was more spontaneous and Sis enjoyed this about him...it made for more fun days. They did everything together, especially during recent years of retirement. Barry enjoyed his work as a mechanic with the airlines and in his Shop making old things new. I was always amazed by the end result of the antique cars. He purchased them in rough condition and refurbished them inside and out to "showroom quality".
Barry will always be a very special part of our life---we hold on to and are grateful for many wonderful and fun memories! In our hearts forever! The Best Brother-in-Law Ever!
We find comfort in knowing he is with Jesus and the hope we have of being united in heaven because of Christ! We extend our gratitude for all the love, concern, prayers and care from so many friends and family. Blessings to All -- With Love and Prayers! Elaine Allen (Sissy)

Ann and family, We are so blessed to have known Barry. It was always a time of smiles, laughter & memories when y'all came to the Tag Office. My favorite memory involves our Youth Group from Shiloh Baptist Church, in Graham, Alabama, from 20+ years ago. We were doing a rock-a-thon in the parking lot and a walk-a-thon around the sanctuary/cemetery to raise money for North American Missions. Barry pulled in to the parking lot, found out what we were doing and gave a very generous offering. The kids were amazed. "Who was that man? How do you know him?" I told them he was Uncle George T. Haynes' cousin. Barry showed us that he cared and wanted others to learn about Jesus. We will always smile and be thankful for his kindness. You are all in our prayers. We are asking Jesus to bring comfort and peace. May your happy memories bring smiles & laughter. With love, Gita & Kenneth Spratlin

Barry is so smart. He knew how to.fix or repair anything especially cars. My boys loved hanging out with their uncle Barry He taught them “ how to do it”. I remember Barry and I was walking to school, he in first and me in the third grade when I heard a noise, I told Barry I was “afraid” and he put his arms in the air and said”I will protect you” .He was 6 and I was 8. Barry could pick up a stick and come home, after some tradings, with a gold nugget. I am going to miss him so much. I love you. Your forever Sis

Oh My Most Beautiful & Loving Berdie (Ann), You & Surg (Barry) have always been my marriage role models. Your love, compassion & humor for each other has inspired me on so many occasions. I have SO many treasured memories of y'all like back in the 80's when I came to your beauty shop at your home in college park and you fixed my hair from a bad haircut & Surg came in & said to me, "Berdie, you so stupid!!!" we all laughed until we had tears rolling down our legs. Then, there's the day when Surg bought a tanning bed & you & I thought we'd hit the jackpot for golden goddesses, hahaha!!! We had the best tans in town! I STILL don't know why or how he got that white casket or how he convinced you & me to get over in it while he took our picture. I guess one could honestly say you & I would do anything for Surg, hahaha! And the day in the early 90's when I had a big, 1st date to go to Ray's On The River & nothing decent to wear...you graciously opened your closet to me. I must have looked halfway decent in your dress because that young man later proposed to me. Thankfully, God brought me through heartbreak & saved me from making a big mistake. You & Surg would later set me up on a date. I remember the 1st time I came to spend the night with y'all at the lake. Wow! What an adventure!!! And the pictures to treasure. I'll spare you the embarassment by not posting it with this memory but you were such a bathing beauty in your sexy red swimsuit that Surg could barely drive the boat for swooning over you. We had SO much fun skiing, knee boarding & riding wave runners. I was so sore & sun burned I hurt for a week, but I'd do it again in a heartbeat only this fat, old, broken & bruised child wouldn't be able to pull myself out of the water much less ski...have you ever witnessed a person who walks with the use of a cane water ski??? Well, me neither, hahaha! (Hope that visualization made ya giggle) Let's just say, you & Surg are a HUGE part of my life & I praise God for bringing our paths together at Blackwell, Poole & Co, CPAs on July 7, 1985. My life has been FOREVR enriched! Berdie, I pray that you know how much Surg cherishes & adores you. YOU ARE THE WIND BENEATH HIS WINGS. He is in Heaven getting everything primped & ready for ya. Based on what I've read in the Bible, Heaven is beyond Perfection, but if it were possible to improve perfection we both know Surg would be doing it for you. Until God is ready to reunite y'all for eternity, I pray that you will feel the overwhelming Presence of our Heavenly Father, the creator of life & lover of your soul & that He will meet & exceed your every need & desire in His abundance. Just allow Him to carry you & cuddle you...put your beautiful head on His strong & capable shoulders & draw from His strength to get you through each day, one step at a time. Remember you will NEVER be alone in your pain & grief; for not only has God promised to NEVER LEAVE YOU NOR FORSAKE YOU, but your family & friends are here grieving & feeling pain with you & are praying for you. There is strength in numbers, yeehaw!!! Oink! Oink!!! I pledge to you with all of my heart this 31st day of March, 2021, to pray for you EVERY DAY...for God to make your path straight & make the days more bearable especially for the 1st Anniversary, your 1st Birthday, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year, without Surg's physical presence that God will honor you & bless you with precious dreams & miracles that there'll be no other explanation than a divine visit from the Holy Presence of God sharing Surg's love for you. May I encourage you to start journalling to keep a record of God's faithfulness to you so on the tough days you can read your 1st hand experience how God has blessed you? I can't tell you what a difference this has made in my life & one day beautiful Sophia can read it & be blessed too. Barry's & your legacies can be passed from generation to generation. Robin, Sophia, Bryan, Woody, Elaine, family members & other friends, you will also be bathed in my prayers. 1 Corinthians 10:13, GOD IS FAITHFUL, HE WILL ALSO PROVIDE A WAY OUT SO THAT WE CAN ALL STAND UP UNDER HIS STRENGTH. Although our knees may buckle & we may stumble in pain right now, He is our hope & may we all love on each other & become better, stronger through this time as we honor a great man, Barry Ward, who has blessed our lives & made us better people just for knowing him & sharing life with him & Ann. Berdie, since there are no human words to express my love for you & Surg, I'm praying for God to share it with you as only He can do. Well, I guess I've probably crashed Benefield's website with my rambling on & I'm about to wet myself, so I'll wrap it up. You remember, Allen Poole still calls me "Memo Moreland" 'cause I put it ALL in writing, hahaha! I always say, "It's called 'communication -I don't know any mind readers." Needles to say, I'm here for you for WHATEVER you need WHENEVER you need, just a prayer, phone call, or text away. Yo' Berdie, Kathye Moreland Reeves (Oh, P.S. My grand-mother-in-law's maiden name was "BENEFIELD", Hummmm???) Oh, but wait...there's more...Berdie, I'm attempting to attach a photo of a note you wrote to me inside the cover of the Webster's Dictionary you bought me to welcome me to Blackwell, Poole. Little did you know what an impact that kind gesture would make on a young lady on her 1st "real job."
