I met Lesli on the first day of kindergarten and we spent the next 13 years together at Woodland until graduation. The one thing that I remember the most about her was her smile. She always had a smile. Even on my toughest days, I could look at Lesli's smile and it would make me smile too. She made everyone's day better with her happiness.
She was a good friend! I knew I could always get reliable advice from her and when she asked for advice from me....well, I did the best I could. We went through 6th grade graduation together ("you're a grand old flag you're a high flying flag"). In highschool we were usually in different classes, but seeing her in the hallway I could still see the smile that was always on her face.
The last time I saw her was in 1997 at our graduation. That makes me sad that I wasn't able to see her again. I was hoping to see her at the class reunion but figure she wasn't well enough at that point.
To Her Children: Having lost loved ones myself, I know the type of pain you are going through. When my brother passed away I had a huge hole in my heart. What fills it is alot of love toward other people who you may or may not know. Kindness and love rules the world and showing that kindness and love towards others will fill your heart.
To Her Mom: There is probably no thing that will make you feel better except time to process it. Let your grandchildren fill your life with love. They need you at this time!
My prayer for all of you is this:
Dear Lord,
Please bless this family,
please allow them to grieve and be secure in your light,
please allow them to appreciate Lesli's life and accomplishments,
please allow them to remember Lesli and her time on earth.
Lesli was an inspiration to others,
she made others feel happy,
she made others smile,
she secured the insecurities of others through her confidence,
and she was a blessing to this world.
In all these things I've said,
Please grant us the ability to love others as you have loved us.
Amen
