Graveside services for Johnnie French New, age 80, of Wedowee will be held on Sunday, April 9, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Wedowee City Cemetery with Rev. Jon Tal Murphree officiating and Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3:30-6:00 PM on Saturday, April 8, 2023.

Mrs. New passed away Thursday, April 6, 2023, at her home.

Survivors include her husband, Jimmy New of Wedowee; one son, John Tod New of New Hope; one daughter, Mimi Elizabeth Stephens (husband, Brian) of Wedowee; two grandchildren, Jace and Mia; one sister, Marvelene Birch of Anniston; one brother, Robert French of Greenville, SC; and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.

A Randolph County native, Mrs. New was born on August 17, 1942, the daughter of Walker and Verdie Wilder French.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Wedowee and was retired from the Randolph County Board of Education.  Mrs. New was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, DeWitt French; and one sister, Roberta French.
